Hello ROCStars,
It’s been awhile since we’ve sent key takeaways from our board meetings, but please know that our small board has been working tirelessly behind the scenes on a lot of big items related to the renewal of our charter, the approval of our permanent location, and our big move to Sumner Drive this summer. Here are a few other key updates from the April regular board meeting:
(1) Save the dates! June 17-18 and June 24-25: our two largest volunteer work weekends of the year! We’re moving from Forum Drive to Sumner Boulevard and need your help to get the new building ready! Take a sneak peek, help prepare your child’s classroom, and get them comfortable in the new building. The Parent Circle will send sign-up forms and details soon, but in the meantime, mark your calendars! We hope you’ll also consider bringing friends and family, coworkers, or teenagers who need volunteer service hours. This community-initiated school requires all of our community members to help keep it going strong. We expect participation from every family for what will be an extremely big job.
(2) The board is working with school administrators to reopen Raleigh Oak Preschool at our Sumner location. Be on the lookout for more information soon.
(3) Several of your board members are reaching their term limits. That means, we need replacement members who can carry ROCS into the future. You don’t need board experience, but you will to commit a few hours each week. For more information about the responsibility of the board and the path for interested candidates, please take a look at our board recruitment letter. We hope you’ll share it widely with your networks to ensure the longevity and continuity of our governance team.
(4) Now that we are back to meeting each month in person, we will be discontinuing the Google Meet option for the public starting with the May 2023 meeting. As always, members of the public are welcome to join in person in the Multipurpose Room at ROCS.
With gratitude,
The ROCS Board of Directors
